Plymouth’s coastal location means properties here face a combination of challenges that inland towns simply don’t. Salt-laden air accelerates the deterioration of guttering materials, while the strong south-westerly winds that roll in off Plymouth Sound carry debris and deposit it across rooftops throughout the year. When gutters become restricted, water has nowhere to go but over the sides, and that means damp walls, rotting fascia boards, and water finding its way into places it shouldn’t. Regular cleaning is the most straightforward way to keep your home protected against Plymouth’s demanding climate.
Gutters rarely fail without warning – the signs are usually there if you know what to look for:
- Water running down the face of external walls rather than through the downpipes
- Moss or plant growth visible along the top of the gutter channel
- Staining or damp patches on rendered or brick walls beneath the roofline
- Gutters that appear to have shifted, dropped, or separated from the fascia
- Birds or insects establishing themselves around the roofline or in the guttering itself
Spotting any of these at your Plymouth property is a prompt to act before the situation worsens.
For Plymouth homes, twice a year is a sensible baseline – once in late spring and again in early winter. That said, Plymouth’s exposure to Atlantic weather systems means gutters can take a battering outside of the typical autumn leaf fall period too. Properties on higher ground, near Dartmoor’s edge, or in leafier suburbs such as Plympton or Plymstock may find seasonal cleans alone aren’t sufficient. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what your property actually
needs.
Yes – Plymouth’s housing stock is varied, ranging from Victorian terraces in Mutley and Stoke to post-war semis, waterfront properties, and modern developments, and our teams are equipped to work across all of them. We handle uPVC, cast iron, aluminium, steel, and timber guttering, along with seamless systems and non-standard profiles. Conservatories and outbuildings can be included in the same visit, and soffit and fascia cleaning is available as an add-on at an
additional cost.
We operate to the highest standards of site safety on every job. Our teams are fully IPAF certified for working at height and the business holds SSIP accreditation – both widely recognised benchmarks of professional compliance. Commercial projects are covered by our PASMA certification. The access method used on each job is matched to the property – secured ladder systems, harnesses, or scaffolding where the situation demands it. We carry comprehensive public liability insurance as standard across all of our Plymouth work.
Most Plymouth homes are completed within one to two hours, depending on the size and layout of the property. A compact terraced house will naturally take less time than a large detached property with multiple roof levels. We’ll always give you a straightforward time estimate before starting and won’t cut the job short to keep to an arbitrary schedule.
Plymouth is no stranger to strong winds and heavy rainfall, and our teams are experienced at working in challenging conditions. Routine cloud cover and light rain won’t delay us. However, we won’t put our operatives at risk by working at height during gales, electrical storms, or freezing conditions – all of which Plymouth can experience during the winter months. If we need to rearrange your booking, we’ll let you know promptly and get a new date confirmed as quickly as possible.
No – the entire cleaning is carried out from outside, so there’s no need for us to enter your home at any point. As long as we can move safely around the perimeter of the property, you don’t need to be present. We’ll confirm when the work is done and let you know of anything worth flagging about the condition of your gutters.

Service: Gutter cleaning
Property type: 3 bed end-of-terrace house
We were booked to carry out a full gutter clean on an end-of-terrace property in Peverell, a well-established residential area in the north of Plymouth. End-of-terrace homes like this one are particularly exposed to the elements, and with Plymouth’s Atlantic-facing position, the gutters had taken on a significant amount of debris over the previous months.
On the day of the visit, conditions were far from ideal, a brisk coastal wind had picked up across the city, the kind that Plymouth residents know all too well during winter. Despite this, our two-man team arrived on time and got straight to work, maintaining a thorough and methodical approach throughout without letting the weather affect the quality of the job.
On inspection, the gutters along the exposed side elevation were found to be heavily blocked with compacted leaves, moss, and wind-blown debris that had accumulated and begun to restrict drainage. A section of guttering on the front elevation had also shifted slightly out of alignment, likely due to wind pressure over time, causing water to pool rather than flow freely towards the downpipe. The team cleared all guttering across every elevation, realigned the affected section, and checked all downpipes were running clear before finishing up.
The customer, Amanda, was appreciative of the team’s diligence and good humour throughout what was a challenging day to be working at height. The job was wrapped up in a single visit with no return trip needed, leaving the property’s drainage fully restored ahead of the wetter months.
